Concerns Raised Over Kabini Reservoir Leak; Repairs and Monitoring Planned
Mysore: Concerns have been raised about a long-standing leak near the Nale Gate, which releases water into the canal from the right bank of the Kabini Reservoir at Beechanahalli in Kote Taluk. This leakage issue has been ongoing for three to four years.
Officials from the Kabini and Varuna Nala circles have clarified that while there is no leakage in the main part of the reservoir, there are issues with the sluice walls of the right bank canal. An expert committee has assessed this matter and reported that there is no threat to the safety of the reservoir due to this leak.
To address these concerns, experts have recommended installing CCTV cameras for regular monitoring and carrying out necessary repairs during February or May next year, when water storage levels decrease. Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also assured that all required measures have been taken to ensure the safety and stability of the reservoir.
