Court Decision on Actor Darshan’s Bail Awaited
The Sessions Court in Bengaluru has postponed its ruling regarding actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s bail request in a murder case. The hearing, held on Tuesday, involved bail applications from Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and eleven others connected to the Renukaswamy murder incident. Judge Jaishankar presided over the session, during which lawyers for the other accused presented their arguments, while Darshan’s team remained silent.
The special government prosecutor, P. Prasannakumar, also made his case, prompting the court to delay its decision until October 9, 2024. The previous bail hearing for Darshan was rescheduled for September 27, while Gowda’s was set for September 25. Darshan initially submitted his bail application on September 21.
The Renukaswamy case centers around the murder of a 33-year-old man from Chitradurga, whose body was found in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, on June 9. Earlier, the Sessions Court had granted bail to two other accused, Nikhil Naik and Karthik, while the High Court allowed bail for Keshava Murthy on September 23.
Bengaluru police have compiled a detailed charge sheet of 3,991 pages against 17 individuals implicated in the case, including Darshan and Gowda. The situation has garnered media attention, especially after a controversial photograph of Darshan with known offenders in jail surfaced, leading to the suspension of seven prison officials for alleged preferential treatment.
