Crime, Family & Chaos: Bengaluru Burglar Lived Triple Life, Trained Son to Steal
In a bizarre tale blending crime and family complexities, 35-year-old Babajan has been arrested by Electronics City police for a series of burglaries across Bengaluru — the latest committed with the help of his 16-year-old son. With three wives and nine children scattered across Srirangapatna, Anekal, and Chikkaballapura, Babajan maintained a nomadic, unsustainable life, funded through theft, police say.
Lacking a steady job, he began committing burglaries eight years ago, carefully scanning homes for lapses in security. His methods evolved into a systematic routine — spotting open doors, dropping his son nearby, signaling when it was safe, and executing daylight thefts with minimal confrontation.
The father-son duo struck most recently on May 7 in Bettadasanapura, stealing ₹4.6 lakh worth of valuables while the homeowner, Rojamma, was briefly away. Police say Babajan trained his son, banking on the legal system’s leniency toward juveniles.
Their spree ended on May 13, when Inspector Naveen GM’s team traced Babajan using CCTV footage and arrested him in Mylasandra. He confessed to multiple thefts and elaborated on his tactics.
So far, Babajan has been linked to nine burglary cases, and police have recovered 188g of gold, 550g of silver, and a two-wheeler used in the crimes. The case has sparked serious concern over the exploitation of minors in crime and the psychological consequences of involving children in such illegal acts.
