Robbery On Dadar Superfast Express Woman Loses Gold Jewellery Worth Rs 1.7 Lac

Udupi, Jun 18: Sundari Ganesan, a 51-year-old woman traveling on the Dadar Superfast Express (Train No. 22630) from Madurai to Panvel, was robbed of gold jewellery valued at Rs 1.7 lac in a shocking incident. The robbery took place in the early hours of May 29 while the train was halted near a station.

Sundari, accompanied by her husband on a journey to visit their daughter in Mumbai, was asleep in coach S1 when the theft occurred. An unidentified perpetrator forcibly snatched 2 gold coins weighing 4 grams each, 2 attached gold balls, and a 28-gram gold mangalya string from her neck around 11:15 PM. She reported, “The assailant pulled the chain from my neck while I was asleep.”

Upon reaching Mumbai, Sundari promptly informed the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE), suspecting the robbery near Innanje railway station in Innanje village, Udupi district. The stolen items, including a 32-gram gold chain, are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.7 lac.

Local authorities have registered a case (Crime Number 80/2024) at Kaup police station under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for robbery. Investigations are underway to apprehend the culprit and recover the stolen jewellery.
