Woman Dies from Burn Injuries After Alleged Attack by Brother-in-Law in Sullia
A tragic incident in Kodyala village, Sullia, has led to the death of Jayabharati (56), who succumbed to severe burns on Thursday after her brother-in-law, Shankar Nayak, allegedly set her on fire on October 12. According to reports, Shankar allegedly poured petrol through her bedroom window while she slept and ignited it, resulting in Jayabharati sustaining burns over 80% of her body.
Jayabharati, initially treated at a hospital in Sullia, was transferred to Mangaluru but ultimately did not survive her injuries. Her husband, Janardhan Nayak, had passed away a year and a half ago, and with her son recently moving abroad, Jayabharati and Shankar were the only residents in the house. Despite her care for Shankar, who reportedly suffers from partial paralysis, he allegedly bore resentment toward her.
Police have detained Shankar Nayak, and a case has been filed at Bellare Police Station.
