
‘Cyber Sainik’ Workshop at Carmel School Empowers Students on Digital Safety
Mangaluru: Carmel School, Mangaluru, successfully hosted the ‘Cyber Sainik’ workshop from January 20 to 22, aiming to educate students on cyber security and responsible online behavior. The three-day event was organized in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and Kyndryl, targeting students from grades 6 to 9.
The workshop began with a prayer service led by grade 9 students, followed by a welcome address from Akshatha. Guest speakers Chirag Suvarna, a senior cyber security analyst, and Vedika, a project coordinator at DSCI, were introduced. The inauguration featured a ceremonial lamp lighting by Sr Lilly Pushpa (principal), Sr Premal (vice-principal), and the speakers.
The sessions covered essential topics such as cybercrime, internet safety, responsible social media use, and protecting personal information online. Students learned about cyberbullying, identity theft, cyber stalking, and tactics like social engineering. Practical advice on password protection and recognizing online threats was emphasized. Participants also pledged to avoid cyberbullying, respect privacy, and contribute to a safer digital environment.
Adding a creative touch, a poster-making competition allowed students to depict cyber security themes artistically. Winners included Krithi N R, Athuf, Sanika KV, Vindya, Kenith, Fathima Nasooha, Prarthana Gowri P, and Lavish Kumar K, who were awarded cash prizes by Sr Premal AC. Students Nithasha, Sheryl, and Rachith shared their workshop experiences, highlighting the program’s impact.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Alifya Murtaza Miyajeewala, marking an impactful initiative to empower young minds with the tools to navigate the digital world responsibly.
