Davangere to introduce smart parking system to ease congestion
Davangere is set to launch a Smart Parking System in a few months to alleviate parking issues and traffic congestion. The project, spearheaded by Davangere Smart City Limited (DSCL), will likely be implemented via the City Corporation or private partnerships.
Nine locations across the city have been earmarked for the new ‘pay and park’ system, which is expected to generate daily revenue of ₹14,640. These slots can accommodate 2,290 two-wheelers and 319 four-wheelers, with hourly charges of ₹5 and ₹10, respectively.
The system will be managed using the ‘DVG Help’ mobile app, allowing users to identify and reserve parking spots in advance. Advanced smart boards and CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor availability and enhance security. Parking updates will be automatically reflected on the app, aiding in vehicle theft prevention and criminal investigations.
Deputy General Manager Mamata G R stated that the app offers real-time updates on vacant parking spaces and allows users to book slots seamlessly. This innovative solution is expected to streamline parking management in busy areas, where currently 20% of vehicles face difficulties finding spots.
The new system not only addresses the growing number of vehicles but also reduces road-side parking violations, helping police enforce smoother traffic flow.
