Deepika Joins SRK’s ‘King’, Shooting Begins in May
New Delhi: Amid ongoing buzz about Shah Rukh Khan‘s much-anticipated film King, the latest development confirms that Deepika Padukone has officially joined the cast.
The movie, directed by Siddharth Anand, will also feature Suhana Khan, Abhay Verma, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Abhishek Bachchan in significant roles.
Having previously shared the screen in hits like Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan, and Jawan, Shah Rukh and Deepika are reuniting for yet another major collaboration. Reports suggest that the film’s pre-production is in full swing, with filming scheduled to begin on May 18 in Mumbai.
According to an exclusive from Pinkvilla, Shah Rukh was keen from the outset to have Deepika on board. Initially, her schedule didn’t align as she was focusing on her newborn and getting back into fitness. However, with delays in King‘s production, timelines finally matched, enabling her return to the project.
A source revealed, “After careful planning and aligning all schedules, Deepika is confirmed. She’ll shoot for her part in the latter half of 2025. It’s a substantial role, far more than just a guest appearance. Siddharth and the writers have tailored a strong character that complements her chemistry with SRK.”
Interestingly, stars like Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor Khan were also being considered for the role before Deepika was finalized.
While the makers eye a release in late 2025, the final timeline will become clearer once filming gets underway.
