Dharwad Police Crush Tampered Silencers Worth Rs 12 Lakh with Road Roller 

Dharwad: Hubballi-Dharwad City Police, in a strict drive against noise pollution, crushed hundreds of defective silencers from two-wheelers using a road roller at Jubilee Circle, Dharwad.

The seized silencers were confiscated during a special operation conducted by the Dharwad Traffic Police between March 1 and May 29, 2024. A total of 240 defective silencers were seized, estimated to be worth around Rs. 12 lakh.

The police also imposed a fine of Rs. 500 each on the riders of the vehicles with the tampered silencers. Their vehicles were released after the fine was collected.

The press release from the Commissionerate also encouraged public participation in curbing noise pollution. Citizens can report any vehicles with defective silencers by sending a photo or video along with the motorcycle number to the Traffic Police Station’s WhatsApp number: 9480802037. The identities of the informants will be kept confidential, said Police Commissioner Renuka K Sukumar.
