Digital Leap: 37 Dharwad Govt Schools to Get Computers
As part of the Samagra Shikshana Karnataka initiative, 37 government schools in Dharwad district will be equipped with computers to strengthen digital learning. This effort aims to introduce students to basic computing skills while narrowing the digital gap in public education.
The government has been actively promoting digital education to ensure students, regardless of location, have access to quality learning resources. Computers in schools open doors to extensive online knowledge, allowing students to conduct research, collaborate, and engage with interactive learning.
Under the ICT and DIGITAL initiatives (elementary) scheme, the state government will provide 1 laptop, 1 projector, 10 computers, and a 2 KV UPS (with battery) to 502 government schools across Karnataka. Each school will receive ₹6.4 lakh for these digital resources.
According to SM Hudedamani, deputy project coordinator of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, 27 schools were sanctioned in 2023-24, with 10 more added in 2024-25, bringing the total to 37. A dedicated computer lab will be set up in each school at a cost of ₹70,000, covering electrical work, seating arrangements, and security features.
Govt Model School headmaster LT Dasar emphasized that computer education is vital for children, covering digital literacy, programming, IT fundamentals, and modern software. He noted that interactive digital tools enhance subject learning, making education more engaging and effective.
A tender will soon be floated to expedite the implementation of this project.
