DK Education Department Focuses on Slow Learners to Boost SSLC Results

The Dakshina Kannada education department has launched a focused initiative to support slow learners in a bid to improve SSLC exam results this academic year. Out of the 28,612 students set to appear for the SSLC exams across 525 schools, 4,742 have been identified as slow learners, with the highest numbers in Bantwal and Mangaluru South.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Venkatesha Subraya Patagara announced that the department, in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, has introduced 10 programs specifically targeting these students. Unlike previous years, these initiatives are being implemented at the start of the academic year, aiming for completion by February.

Key programs include academic adoption, where teachers mentor slow learners throughout the year, and efforts to increase class attendance, particularly for those frequently absent. Teachers will engage parents to ensure regular attendance. Additionally, special one-hour early classes have been introduced in several schools, allowing teachers to provide personalized attention.

The department is also employing e-learning materials, offering teacher training on specific subjects, and implementing continuous academic monitoring. Regular visits by officials to high schools will help review progress and guide teachers. Furthermore, workshops by counselors and doctors are planned to address exam anxiety and boost student confidence.

The overall goal is to improve the district’s pass percentage and secure a top position in the state.
