Drunken Brawl Turns Fatal: Two Arrested for Friend’s Murder in Chikkaballapur
In a shocking incident, Chikkaballapur rural police apprehended two young men—a petrol pump worker and a cab driver—for allegedly murdering their friend following an alcohol-fueled argument. The tragic incident took place on Friday, leading to swift action by law enforcement.
The victim, 24-year-old Maruthesh, a plumber by profession, had left home on Thursday night but never returned. Concerned about his whereabouts, his family began searching for him, only to discover his lifeless body in a residential layout the following morning.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police launched an investigation and managed to trace and arrest the suspects—22-year-old Vinod, a petrol bunk employee, and 19-year-old Abhishek, a cab driver—within six hours of the crime being reported.
Investigations revealed that the three were drinking companions who had gone to a bar to purchase liquor. A dispute arose over who should pay the bill, leading to a heated altercation. The argument escalated when they returned to their usual drinking spot in the layout. In a fit of rage, Vinod and Abhishek brutally attacked Maruthesh with beer bottles, eventually slitting his throat with a broken glass shard, killing him instantly.
After committing the crime, the duo fled the scene, leaving their friend bleeding to death. Police collected beer bottles from the crime scene, checked nearby liquor stores, and examined CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
Both accused have been booked for murder and sent to judicial custody. The case has raised concerns over the rising instances of alcohol-induced violence.
