The Rani Chennamma Women Welder Training Programme, a 45-day initiative launched at NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), is breaking new ground by empowering women in the traditionally male-dominated field of welding. Organized by Praj GenX Limited, a subsidiary of Praj Industries Limited, the free training program is designed specifically to upskill 25 newly appointed women welders. Named after the legendary warrior queen Rani Chennamma, this initiative reflects a strong commitment to enhancing gender diversity in technical sectors.
In collaboration with the NMAMIT-Fronius Centre for Welding Technology, the program offers these women hands-on training in welding techniques, preparing them for industry-specific demands. Upon completing the course, all participants will be hired by Praj GenX, a move that not only strengthens the company’s workforce but also revolutionizes opportunities for women in skilled labor.
Vijesh V, associate professor at NMAMIT, highlighted that this is likely the first-of-its-kind program in Mangaluru and Karnataka. The initiative is set to create significant societal transformation by paving the way for gender equality in skilled professions, according to Abbay Pai, regional manager at Fronius India Private Limited. NMAMIT principal Niranjan N Chiplunkar emphasized that this effort supports skill development and promotes gender inclusion in technical fields.
