Efforts Underway to Revive Musical Fountain and Laser Show at Kadri Park
Mangaluru: The long-defunct musical fountain and laser show at Old Deer Park, Kadri Park, may soon see a revival. Originally installed at a cost of ₹5 crore and inaugurated in 2018 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the attraction has remained non-functional for nearly five years, largely due to the pandemic and maintenance challenges.
The musical fountain and laser show showcased Tulunadu’s cultural heritage, including Yakshagana, kambala, and bhootharadhane, through visually stunning laser displays. Though Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) planned to restore the facility a year ago, no substantial progress was made until recently.
Muda chairman Sadashiva Ullal has now prioritized the restoration project. Speaking to TOI, Ullal confirmed that Muda would take the lead if the horticulture department submits a proposal. “We aim to address pending development requests for the Old Deer Park. However, maintenance must be ensured by the relevant authorities to prevent further deterioration,” he said.
According to horticulture department officials, repairing the musical fountain and laser show is estimated to cost around ₹40 lakh. The department is preparing a detailed proposal for submission to Muda, which will focus on both the repair and overall development of the park’s tourist infrastructure.
Previously, entry fees for the attraction were ₹50 for adults and ₹25 for children, later reduced to ₹30 and ₹15, respectively. Once revived, the musical fountain and laser show could serve as a significant draw for both locals and tourists, reviving interest in the cultural and recreational offerings of Kadri Park.
