Pakistan: ‘Bhajrangi Bhaijaan’, the recently released Salman Khan starrer, created a sensation across the country with the attempt to erase the lines of divide between Pakistan and India. In this view, it was Chand Nawab, the Pakistan Journalist potrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui that made the real Chand Nawab famous.
With this regard, Chand Nawab, has requested for a compensation from Salman Khan for using him as an inspiration for the character.
In 2008, Chand Nawab became well-known in Pakistan, when his colleagues uploaded a video of him of YouTube covering as story at a railway platform as passersby kept interrupting him. He was seen swearing at the people who interfered with his piece to camera. The video went viral but his career took a severe hit. The same scene was incorporated in the movie to provide some comic relief.
He has apparently said in an interview that he was a poor man, and hoped that Khan would compensate him.
“It’s just a request, I’m not going to sue them or go to court over it. If they decide to give it, then well and good, otherwise it’s not a problem,” Nawab said. “This is about Pakistan’s respect, my intention is not to mint money, it’s simply a request.”
He also said that he wants to meet Khan at some point. “I will be meeting Salman Khan, I cannot disclose when, it’s under discretion, but yes, I will be meeting him and if he decides to compensate me then that will be great.”
