tpainMumbai: T-Pain had dropped a “surprise” song, which got blocked on YouTube on copyright grounds after Indian filmmaker Mohit Suri and Mithoon pointed out that the melody used by the Grammy award-winning rapper is the Indian composer’s original work which had featured in the 2013 film “Aashiqui 2”.

“One more surprise before the year’s over #ThatsYoMoney out now,” T-Pain tweeted on Friday.

Suri, who had helmed the Bollywood film, wrote: “Dunno why, but this seems familiar. ‘Aashiqui 2’ ‘Tum hi ho’ T-Pain. It’s a melody from Mithoon’s song.”

Mithoon also wrote on the micro-blogging site: “Sir, the melody that you have used in your new song is my original work for a previously released Hindi film. The label (T-Series) is looking into this. ‘Tum hi ho’ ‘Aashiqui 2’.”

Following their tweets, the video got blocked.

T-Pain later responded to the allegation in a manner that did not go down well with the netizens.

He tweeted: “Woke up to getting dragged by brown twitter. Sooooo yea. I definitely didn’t produce this song. Had no idea that was a sample and have never heard the music before I got the beat from the producer. Easy thing to work out. The labels will be in contact. Thanx. (sic)”

The netizens again took turns trolling the musician for his “brown twitter” (a possible play on the term “black twitter”) comment and the fact that he did not know about the popularity of “Tum hi ho”.

The video of “Tum hi ho”, which was picturised on actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, has received 213 million views so far.
