Bangalore: BASE always encourages its students to learn with diligence, strive for excellence and to come out with flying colors in the national level exams. In keeping with this tradition of BASE, Sashank K J, a student of BASE successfully cleared the prestigious Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) exam held in January 2019.

He is the only student from Karnataka to have cleared the exam in 12th standard and is one among the 7 students of 12th standard across India to have cleared INMO.

A student of Foundation Science and Technology (FSnT) programme of BASE since ninth standard, Sashank has also cleared KVPY SX Aptitude test (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) and has also scored a whopping 99.96 percentile in JEE Mains in the January 2019 attempt.

The Indian Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India, which leads to participation of Indian students in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) across 25 regions in India on behalf of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.

This programme is one of the major initiatives undertaken by the NBHM. Its main purpose is to spot Mathematical talent among pre-university students in the country. The Mathematical Olympiad programme consists of six stages. Its starts with Stage-1 Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad and culminates with Stage-6, International Olympiad.

Speaking on his recent achievement, Sashank K J said: I was into Math Olympiad from a long time and practicing previous years’ problems really helped. Whenever I found interesting problems, I never stopped solving them. BASE teachers always supported me in my Math journey and various books also helped me crack INMO. It is a really nice experience to be among the Top 7 in the country in 12th standard.

Congratulating the student on his recent success, Mr. Suryaprakash Jayaramu, Associate Vice President, BASE Educational Services, said: “It is a matter of extreme pride for us that our student has cleared the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad exam. Excellent guidance from our faculty and the hard work and dedication of the student has been responsible for the wonderful result.

His achievement becomes even more special as he is the only student from Karnataka, is one among only 7 across India to have cleared the prestigious exam in 12th std. This result will inspire and motivate other students to achieve such laurels in the future.

Competitive exam period is a very crucial time to determine a student’s future and hence participating in such exams often helps them in polishing their skills. Acknowledgement from such bodies will not only encourage students to understand their capabilities in Mathematics at a young age but will also contribute to the Mathematical pool of the country.”
