Mangaluru: After first STEM camp’s massive success, the second camp is being conducted to help children cultivate a love for literature and theatre. To encourage creative thinking and a new Arts program, ELC is organizing a 2 week Summer Program – ‘Creative Voice’ from May 9 to 20. The camp would offer a space for children to interact freely and explore basic concepts of theatre, literature and self-expression. Various specialists would be scheduled to work with students and introduce them to different art forms. Aimed at children between six and 13 years of age, the camp would involve activities such as theatre games, stories, art, craft, music, dance, makerspace, lego and much more. The idea of the program is to encourage children to think, create and work together as a team, besides learning how to use their imagination and explore their creative energies.

CFAL’s STEM camp a massive hit

With an aim to help keep children learning and engaged this summer while growing skills for the future, CFAL and Early learning Centre, Mangalore conducted a 4 week STEM camp, designed to immerse children in hands-on STEM learning activities, design challenges, and creative fun with robotics. The camp catered to children of Grade 1-7 and was an amalgamation of learning, problem solving, and expanding their STEM skills through multiple week-long class offerings that included experts, interactive instruction combined with real, hands-on activities.

A multidisciplinary approach and hands-on activities unwrapped some amazing potential in children – from robotics, coding, makerspace, carpentry and creative design they experienced it all. In the course of the camp, children were taught how to make foldscopes, LED greeting cards, log cars, wooden shelves, had an introduction to tools, halo code and using photoshop/canva for image editing. Besides these sessions – art, dance, music and group discussions aimed at improving communication and interpersonal skills among campers. The field trips helped children in learning, self-discovery and reflecting through adventure education.

The highlight of the camp was an entrepreneurial venture by children on the final day, that directed at helping them understand financial literacy and teamwork. Children were provided with a small capital, they went shopping, attended an auction for spots at the campus and finally got to display the various exhibits/food made by them, thereby introducing them to the nuances of business. Overall each day at the Camp was a dynamic mix of hands-on activities, demonstrations and design challenges.
