Contests, recognitions galore mark Nat’l Science Day-’22 at Yenepoya Univ

Deralakatte, Mangaluru: Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) organized the “National Science Day-2022” program at Deralakatte campus with this year’s national theme of “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”. National Science Day is celebrated every year on Feb 28 to mark the discovery of The Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman on Feb 28, 1928. 

To celebrate National Science Day, events namely, Eureka (pitch an idea), and Insignia (E-emblem) competitions were conducted. As many as 19 and 21 teams participated in Eureka and Insignia respectively across various constituent Departments of Yenepoya and from other institutions across Mangalore. 

Awards for best papers, best-cited articles and best researchers were given to the faculties of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) to recognize their contributions. The awardees for the best paper awards were Dr Vinitha R. Pai from Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Shashikanth Hegde from Yenepoya Dental College, Dr Yashodhar Bhandary from Yenepoya Research Centre and Dr Mudasir Rashid Baba from Yenepoya Physiotherapy College. The recipients of highly cited articles were Dr Rekha P. D. from Yenepoya Research Centre, Dr Anil Kakkunje from Yenepoya Medical College and Dr Akther Hussain from Yenepoya Dental College. 

Dr Riaz Abdullah, from Yenepoya Dental College, Dr Madhavi Bhargava, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed from Yenepoya Pharmacy College and Research Centre, Dr Rajesh P Shastry, Yenepoya Research Centre received Best Researcher Award for their overall research performance. 

Additionally, Dr Leena KC from Yenepoya Nursing College and Dr Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed from Yenepoya Pharmacy College and Research Centre received the appreciation award for publication.

Dr M. Vijaykumar, hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), delivered the presidential remarks and emphasized integrating science and technology and recognizing the needs of the society for a sustainable future. Dr K. Gangadhar Somayaji, Registrar, Dr Abdul Rahiman, the Academic Advisor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Dr Rekha P. D., Director of Yenepoya Research Centre, Dr Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed, Principal and Dean of Yenepoya Pharmacy College and Research Centre were present in the event.
