eTIME-2017 inaugurated at SJEC

Mangaluru: The third edition of “eTIME-2016: FDP and National Conference on Emerging Trends in Mechanical Engineering,” organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru, in association with Scientific and Academic Publishing, United States, was inaugurated on August 4 at Spoorthi Hall in the college campus.

Dr. Sudheer M, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering introduced the department to the gathering, highlighting the recent achievements. He also welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering to the event and expressed hope and confidence of effective and useful deliberations during the two-day FDP and National Conference.

Inaugurating the conference, Chief Guest of the ceremony Dr. J M Mallikarjuna, Professor from IIT–Madras spoke on the relevance of the conference, highlighting the need for institutions and faculty to be in touch with the rapidly evolving technologies. Appreciating the timeliness of the conference and the theme, he wished all the participants a useful and productive conference.

As part of the evolution, go-green initiative of the Institution, this edition of eTIME-2017 witnessed the phasing out of printed proceedings of the conference and replacement of the same with soft copies issued to all in a USB Drive. The proceedings were thus released by the dignitaries by uncovering the USB Drive.

Dr. Joseph Gonsalves, Principal, SJEC, in his address cited the 100 percent renewable energy status of Germany and highlighted the need for developing sustainable technology. Introducing the discipline of Mechanical Engineering as one of the foremost engineering disciplines, Dr. Gonsalves spoke about the contributions of the field to humankind.

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, congratulated the department on its achievements and spoke about the need to strive towards achieving bigger things and to not let small achievements stagnate us with its smaller glories.

Dr. Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal, SJEC and Rev. Fr. Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director, SJEC were present on the occasion and acknowledged the efforts of the organisers.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Shreeranga Bhat, Organising Secretary of eTIME-2017. The inaugural ceremony was followed by keynote addresses.
