One will only be able to ace these tests or process of selection only if their preparation is concrete. Also check out how to prepare for IPMAT verbal to ensure the approach is good and will provide the candidate with results with flying colours.

Top business schools in India all conduct these assessment tests for selecting candidates for their institution.

Written Ability Test (WAT):

The Written Ability Test is a test that requires a candidate to write on a given topic within 10-20 minutes. It is essentially a type of essay question. Depending upon the institution, the questions may vary. Like an essay writing competition, this test aims to assess the candidate’s understanding of the issue, fluency in writing, ability to apply problem-solving skills, and valid reasoning. An examination of this kind removes the issue of the candidate having trouble with speaking.

Tips for preparing for Written Ability Test:

Read and Read:

To prepare for the written ability test and be ready to write on any given topic, one must have a prerequisite store of knowledge one can rely on confidently. It is possible only when one reads a lot and gathers a lot of knowledge by reading a lot of IPMAT books. For instance, the topics for the test can range from current affairs to something very general or abstract. If one lacks knowledge of the given subject, they are bound to do poorly at the test as they have nothing to write about the assigned topic. So, allot a lot of time reading and gaining information.

Practice Your Writing:

Practice makes a man perfect. The saying is accurate and will help you go a long way. Try and write on various topics to understand how to write. Practising will help you in many ways. For instance, after writing quite a lot, you will know how you can go about answering the question, which will save you from losing time on thinking and also allow you to write with clarity and structure.

Time Management:

Managing your time in this test is crucial as there is a time limit. If you cannot deliver strong points within the set limit, it will decrease your chances of getting shortlisted. It is vital to keep track of time and organise your content accordingly. Ensure to deliver the best content within the allotted time. Avoid beating around the bush and strictly stick to the topic.

Organise and Structure:

Organising and structuring your content by allotting about 2 minutes to it will significantly impact you to maintain a flow and cohesion in your writing. Having your thoughts disorganised will reflect in your content and leave an undesirable impression. So, organise your thoughts before putting them onto paper.

Conciseness:

Keep your content concise. Your content must be brief while conveying what you want the reader to know. As mentioned earlier, avoid beating around the bush. Sticking to this tip will help you avoid such mistakes and ensure that your answer isn’t unnecessarily lengthy.

Credibility:

Don’t write just to make your answer seem lengthy. For instance, some people fill their answers with personal experiences. Keep in mind that these questions are generally under the academic domain, so writing in a specific manner is expected from the candidate. So, if your topic requires it, give examples from credible sources. The sources can be newspapers, journals and other academic sources. However, write that down if your subject requires you to mention a personal example.

Personal Interview:

A personal interview requires the candidate to give an interview to a person, duo or a panel of interviewers. This test is mainly personal based with hints of professional inclinations. For instance, the interviewers might ask a candidate to introduce themselves and ask about their take on a particular topic. The topic or style of the interview depends on the interviewer(s) and the course.

Tips to Prepare for Personal Interview Round:

Exhibit Confidence:

The interviewers quickly detect whether the candidate is nervous or stressed. You might not realise that you are stressed, but your body language conveys all signs of nervousness and stress. So, try not to worry a lot and maintain a confident tone and posture throughout the interview. Exhibit confidence in the way you answer as well.

Don’t attempt to lie:

A lot of aspiring candidates make this mistake. Often, candidates lie to please an interviewer. They fail to recognise that the interviewers are highly experienced and have taken many interviews. They can easily understand if a candidate is lying, which can dent your impression. Be honest, and if you don’t know the answer to a particular question, politely intimate the same to the interviewer(s).

Be prepared for the standard questions:

Questions such as “tell us about yourself”, “Why this institution”, and similar inquiries will come up in interviews. Being prepared for these in advance will help you to appear extremely confident. Also, since you pre-planned your answer, it will allow you to carefully select your words and avoid any form of miscommunication during the interview.

Have the basic knowledge:

For example, if you are appearing for a personal interview for admission into an institution for pursuing an MBA, make sure you grasp the basic knowledge regarding subjects related to that particular course. Also, revise on topics that you have learnt previously. Apart from that, stay updated with current affairs as questions related to that might be asked.

Know your resume:

If your resume needs to be submitted, ensure you know all of the accomplishments, achievements and projects mentioned on your resume. The interviewers can ask questions about a particular project. So, you need to know your resume and your achievements so far.

In conclusion, go over these tips and prepare for your tests. Don’t stress out, and try to maintain a composed mind. Often, candidates perform poorly because their thoughts are blurry due to the stress that has preoccupied their minds.
