Mangaluru: Kannadigas should convert Kannada, a language that can earn bread for us like English. We should never let our language, which has around 2000 years of rich history, down easily, opined retired teacher and thinker S P Ajith Prasad.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations organized by the post-graduation departments of University College at Ravindra Kalabhavana here on Monday, November 4, he said that language is life, a part of the culture that should be spoken, communicated and should never be limited to dictionaries. “Unfortunately, Kannada is one among the 70 endangered languages in the world,” he added.
Presiding over the programme Dr. Uday Kumar M A said, “Only through our mother-tongue can we understand our land and its culture. Villages and local languages play a major role even in Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of ‘Grama Swarajya’. They can give more satisfaction than money.”
