Kasturba Hospital Manipal holds ELNEC Palliative care training

Manipal: The Department of Nursing services in association with the department of Palliative Medicine, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal organized End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC)/ Palliative care core training for nurses from  September 28-30 at Dr TMA Pai Auditorium. Resourced by Hanife MacGamwell, RN, MSN, MTCM, PHN, Honorary Head & Instructor for ELNEC, USA in India and her team.

ELNEC/ Palliative care modules are developed collaboratively by the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN) and the city of Hope, Medical Centre, USA, and adapted to India and other Asian countries. This is a program that began in 2000. In India, the ELNEC training is supported by CIPLA Hospice and Training Center in Pune. The ELNEC project gives nurses and other healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills required to provide quality palliative care where the nurses and doctors really work together to positively impact their lives, as well as the lives of patients and families facing serious illness and/or the end of life.

End of Life Nursing Education Consortium was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, Dean, KMC Manipal.  Guests of Honour Dr Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer was present and Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital Guests of Honour of the program. Dr Naveen Salins, Professor and Head, Department of Palliative Medicine & Supportive care gave an overview of ELNEC. Dr P Suba Sooria, Head of Nursing Services welcomed the gathering. Charmaine Crystal Salins, Incharge of Nursing Training & Quality proposed a vote of thanks.

More than 200 Health care professionals including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers participated in the Program.
