Mangaluru: The “Lamp Lighting Ceremony”, an auspicious occasion in every nurse’s life was held in reverence to Florence Nightingale – The Lady with the Lamp on December 19 at Kanachur College of Nursing Sciences.
The lamp lighting ceremony was organised for the 2nd year BSc students. Students and their parents, faculty and other students were present on the occasion.
Prof. Christeena Saju Varkey, Principal, Dr. M V Shetty College of Nursing was the chief guest for the programme. She expressed with the students the need of patient care with importance of the 3 H-Head, Heart and Hand. “A nurse is a role model for a patient and we should deem it an honour to be one”, he said.
Prof. Renildda Shanthi Lobo, Principal, Kanachur College of Nursing Sciences welcomed the gathering and administered the oath to the novice nurses. David Rakesh D’Souza, assistant professor, spoke on the significance of lamp lighting ceremony and Irine D’Souza, associate professor, introduced the chief guest.
The event was presided over by Haji U K Monu, Chairman, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences. He reiterated the role and responsibilities of a nurse in patient care.
Dr. Virupaksha H S, Dean KIMS, Dr. Devi Prasad, Medical Superintendent, KHRC and Dr. Rohan Monis, Chief Administrative Officer, KHRC were present on the occasion.
Juliana Lobo, associate professor was the master of the ceremony and Violet D’Souza, assistant lecturer proposed a vote of thanks.
