Mangaluru: A lamp lighting ceremony was held for the 16th batch of B.Sc(N) students of Yenepoya Nursing College on December 23, at the Yendurance Zone, Yenepoya University. The ceremony is held as a tribute to Florence Nightingale and formally signifies the students’ entry into the nursing profession.
The programme began with an invocation. Capt. Ajitha Nair, Chief Nursing Officer, Meitra Hospital, Calicut was the chief guest of the program. In her address to the gathering, she stressed on the present scenario of the health care system and a nurse’s role in patient care. Dr. Mohammad Amin Wani, Chief Operating Officer, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, presided over the function and during his presidential address, stressed the importance of the nursing profession & dedication needed towards patient care. Janet Miranda, Associate Professor, Dept. of OBG Nursing, Yenepoya Nursing College divulged the significance of the lamp lighting ceremony to the gathering. Dr. Leena K C, Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College recited the Florence Nightingale pledge to the novices.
Renita Priya D’Souza, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Paediatric Nursing, Yenepoya Nursing College proposed the vote of thanks.
