Mangaluru: The sixth episode of Career Guidance with Prof. Ronald Pinto on the topic, Competitive Exams was premiered on Friday October 15.

Brian Fernandes, Director of Spearhead Media Group hosted the show by NewsKarnataka, which is powered by Loyala College, Bengaluru.

He said, “many professional courses depend upon scoring well in the competitive exams. There are wide variety of competitive exams like banking, medical, engineering etc. and this entire episode focus on that.” Including the name of competitive exams he asked many questions, and Prof. Ronald Pinto answered those questions very beautifully and calmly.

Prof. Ronald Pinto who is the Director of the Institute for Individual Development, Mangaluru, specifically talked about Competitive Exams.

Ronald Pinto said, “marks do not define the person but skill is infact required to be successful person, and that is the reason the government and private sector conduct examinations. In banking sector many Science and Commerce students too are successful becase of competitive exams. He further said, ”KPSC/UPSC/SSC conduct various exams like Indian civil services including IAS, IPS, IFS, etc. while under KPSC there are exams conducted for the posts like Tashildar, FDA, SDA, PDO, Village Accountant, KAS based on various degrees. Here there are reservations for SC/ST , OBC and EWS and also stand a chance.”

“Private sector companies like MRPL, Infosys, L&T, Mindtree etc. conduct exams for recruitment not only for Engineering but also for Commerce students. They conduct aptitude test, group discussion and interview. Aptitude test is very tough,” he added.

Later he mentioned about banking sector competitive exams. “Today’s trend is that many students prefer banking sector because of its work nature, salary structure etc. Both public sector and private sector banks conduct exams for recruitement. English language, reasoning, numerical, computer knowledge and GK are main subjects of this exam. IBPS conducts exams for the public sector banks. There are many books available that will help one take up bank exams,” he said.

Not only these sectors our defence sector too conduct many exams for various posts. From this year SC has given permission to recruit ladies in defence. Science students may apply for NDA, and CDS while Arts and Commerce students can apply for Indian Army. Engineers also can apply for all the three wings of defence. Even medical students can be the part of defence. There is defence college in Pune which give free education for the medical students,” he said.

Lastly Brian Fernandes said that, ”we have covered entire details of competitive exams. But the problem is with coaching classes because of its fees structure. The fees is in lakhs together for the coaching centres. But it is not affordable for financially poor students.” Hence, he was of the opinion that the government should start free coaching classes for bright students who are interested in competitive exams.
