MSAP MAHE Manipal holds 2nd Intl Conference of SRBE 2022

Manipal: Manipal School of Architecture and Planning (MSAP), MAHE, Manipal, is organising the Second International Conference on ‘Sustainable Resilient Built Environment – 2022’ (SRBE), Collaborate to Contribute from Dec 19 to 21, 2022. The international conference was inaugurated on Dec 19, 2022, by MSAP at KEF R&D Centre at MIT, MAHE campus. The inaugural was attended by architects, researchers and academicians from around the world.

During the inaugural, the welcome address was delivered by Dr Nandineni Ramadevi, Director, MSAP and also the conference chair of SRBE 2022. She mentioned that the purpose of the conference is to improve research and theory building by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, ideas, latest trends, developments, and contemporary challenges.

The convener of the conference, Dr Pradeep G Kini, Associate Director (Research and collaboration), MSAP gave an overview of the conference bringing up the significant collaboration between Manipal School of Architecture and Planning, Deakin University, Australia, Kulliyyah School of Architecture and Environment Design, Malaysia, University of Moratuwa, Srilanka, Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand.

Dr Pradeep Kini while introducing the themes of the conference, mentioned that it would explore the implications of different approaches to planning, design, management and governance towards resolving environmental issues related to the built environment and meeting the United Nation’s Sustainable Developmental Goals, develop effective policy making and to mitigate climate change.

Followed by this, Susan Ang, Associate head of school international, Deakin University, Australia, who is also the founding consortium chair of IDIDE (Intercultural dialogue through design), SRBE highlighted the value of connections in the field of built environment research, throughout the globe. She said that the research needs to be addressed through the five pillars of culture, collaboration, community, contribution and continuity

The chief guest of the event, Dr Giridhar P Kini, Registrar, MAHE spoke about the importance of research and publications in academics. Pointing out the fact that the papers submitted to the conference are going to be a part of a Springer book series, he appreciated that the research papers are going to be well recorded as publications of extreme importance. He also suggested that the built environment has become a very sensitive topic of research and to ensure that all individuals contribute towards sustainability and mitigate climate change.

The guest of honour of the event Professor Dr Bharat Dahiya, Director, Research centre for sustainable development and innovation, school of global studies, Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand spoke about different challenges faced by the world in terms of the dangerous impacts of climate change, and he urged everyone to take immediate actions through research and innovation in the fields of architecture, environment design, and planning of cities and villages.

He also mentioned future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Robotics and quantum computing, being a new set of technologies to look at things in a different way to bring in innovations. He concluded by mentioning the urbanization and developing technologies post-pandemic, which all call for redesigning, rethinking, and re-planning of the built environment.

Prof. Sonali Walimbe, MSAP was the MC of the event, and the guest speakers were introduced by Ar. Shantha Pragyan Dash and Dr Vishal Chettry of MSAP, MAHE delivered the vote of thanks. The whole academic community present at the event appreciated and realised how important it is for one to take part in any research events or conferences such as SRBE 2022, to discuss current issues, develop research abilities and presentation skills, team development and management, which would all result in building a better and sustainable world.
