Mangaluru: A new team of office bearers of Women’s National Education Society (WNES) (sponsor of Besant Educational Institutions, Mangalore) was elected during the meeting of the Governing Council held on Monday, 8th November, 2021.
The new composition of Women’s National Education Society is as follows:
- President: Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy
- Vice President: Manel Annappa Nayak
- Vice President: Dr Manjula K.T.
- Secretary: Suresh Pai
- Assistant Secretary: Manel Arjun Nayak
- Assistant Secretary: Lalitha Mallya
- Treasurer: M. P. Bhat
WNES presently runs seven educational institutions including Besant Women’s College, Besant Evening College, Besant National PU College, Besant English School, Besant Higher Primary School (Kannada Medium), Besant National High School (Kannada Medium) and Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management, from two campuses in Mangalore, situated in Kodialbail and Bondel respectively.
WNES traces its legacy to the founding of Besant School by the world-renowned Theosophist, freedom fighter and social reformer Annie Besant in 1918. Women’s National Education Society (WNES) took over the management of the institution from Theosophical Society in 1943. Besant institutions celebrated their centenary in 2018.
