Manipal: Every year second Thursday of June is celebrated as International Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) Day. It is dedicated to increasing awareness about non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH, among various populations: the general public, at-risk patients, the medical community, public health authorities, and the media. As a part of this Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Department of Community Medicine of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal in association with the Department of Health and Family welfare, Udupi District organised a Workshop and training program for Government Doctors on the Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease.

On this occasion, Dr Sharath K Rao, Dean KMC, said, “Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease is the disease of Lifestyle. Obesity and Junk food are the main causes of this and this is an easily preventable disease. Arranging this workshop is to educate and train Medical officers about this disease because they are the primary contact with the community”. Dr Robert Rebello, Administrative Surgeon, Taluk Hospital, Kundapura, and Dr AjithKumar Shetty, Aneasthelogist at Community health centre, Brahmavara were present.

Dr Shiran Shetty, professor and Head Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Dr Murlidhar Kulkarni, Associate professor of Community Medicine participated as resource persons. Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical superintendent welcomed the gathering and Dr Ashwini Kumar, professor and Head Department of Community Medicine proposed a vote of thanks. More than 100 Doctors from the Primary health centre, Community Health centres taluk Hospitals and District Health Office was present.
