Mangaluru: A book titled “Pride of Kanara; True Son of India, Fr Jerome D’Souza SJ” will be released on 7 August 2023 at 3 p.m. at the Eric Mathias Hall, St Aloysius College, Mangalore. This book is authored by Prof. Edmund Frank, Dean, PGDBM, at St Aloysius College. The book is published by St Aloysius Prakashana, Mangalore.

Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, S.J. Principal, St Aloysius College informed the press today.  He was accompanied by Prof. Edmund Frank and H M Pernal, Writer /  Journalist in charge of the Konkani edition.

The book will be released by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore. Rev. Fr Melwin Pinto, S.J., Rector St Aloysius Institutions, Rev. Sr Maria Shamitha A.C, Provincial, Apolistic Carmel, Karnataka Province, Rev. Fr Sylvester D Costa, Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Church, Mulki and Edwin D’ Souza, Fr Jerome’s Grand Nephew from Mulki will be the Special Invitees on the occasion.

Rev. Dr Martis further said ” Fr Jerome D’Souza was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and is rightly called one of the architects of the Indian Constitution. He played a major role in the debates on Minority Rights and Fundamental Rights. He is a signatory to the original copy of the Constitution of India. Fr Jerome was a member of the first Interim Parliament until 1952.”

Pride of Kanara Fr Jerome DSouza Book launch on Aug 7 “Fr Jerome was an appointed member of the Indian delegation to UNO’s General Assembly four times from 1949 to 1957. The Government of India honoured him by issuing a commemorative postage stamp of Rs 2 denomination in his birth Centenary year in December 1997”

“Fr Jerome D’Souza was born in Mulki, South Kanara District and had his primary education in the government Board School in Mulki. He did his High School education at St Aloysius High School. He continued his higher education at St Aloysius College in Mangalore, St Joseph’s College in Trichy and Presidency College in Chennai,” informed Rev. Dr Martis.
