Mangaluru: The Department of Social Work organised an informative discussion on ‘Innovative Ideas to Spread Awareness on Controlling Larva Production and Prevent Dengue’ on August 6 at the Sanidya hall.
Gayathri Nayak, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Mangaluru City Corporation and Raghuveer, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru addressed the students and initiated the discussion.
With the aim of combating dengue and as per the Deputy Commissioner’s advice, Gayathri Nayak briefed the students about dengue and its transmission. She spoke about how to generate awareness among the general public to prevent and control the production of mosquito larvae in the district. During the discussion, she asked the students to give innovative ideas. They came up with ideas like preparing short videos, memes to post on social media, jingles to generate awareness, organizing a treasure hunt to find out larva in the campus etc.
She then asked the students to make a video on their ideas and send it to her. She also said that she can verify and officially post it on social media.
The student council members and social work students actively participated in the discussion and contributed their ideas.
