Mangaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management held an Inter professional Collegiate Debate Competition – 2015, with the theme of `Corruption in India-A Cause of Instability and Poverty’ at the Sahyadri Campus recently.
Students of engineering, medicine, dental and management disciplines from twenty four professional colleges in Mangaluru and the Udupi region participated in the Debate Competition.
The Chief Guest Y. Ravindranath ITS, Chief Vigilance Officer, MRPL, in his inaugural address spoke on corruption and the effects of corruption. He thanked Sahyadri and the Central Vigilance Council for organizing the debate competition.
Stating that corruption is not a new word to the people as it has been around for decades now, Guest of Honour P. G. Ramakrishna, General Manager (Vigilance) MRPL Mangaluru urged the young minds gathered there to take initiatives to fight against corruption.
Dr. Umesh. M. Bhushi, Principal Sahyadri College of Engineering, Mangalore in his presidential address said that at the end of the debate session, the participants and the audience must have something to ponder upon and that implementing the ideas to fight against corruption will make a difference.
Ravindranath and P. G. Ramakrishna gave away the cash prizes and the certificates. The first prize was bagged by Pallak Razdan and Saahil Khandewal of Manipal College Dental Sciences, Mangaluru, the second prize was won by Akshay Subramanian and Vishnu M. B. of A. J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangaluru and the third prize by Chris D’ Souza and Ankit K. R., St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru. The Best Debater award was given to Karthik Ramakrishnan of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.
