SJEC holds Inaugural of First Year BE Classes 2022 23

Mangaluru: The Inauguration of Classes for First Year B.E., for the academic year 2022-23, at St Joseph Engineering College – Vamanjoor, was held on Nov. 28 2022 at 9:30 am in Kalam Auditorium, Academic Block II. The inaugural ceremony was attended by all the First Year students along with a few Parents. 

Giridhar Salian, Director, of Karnataka German Technical Training Institute(KGTTI), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director SJEC, presided over the ceremony. Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, SJEC, Dr K Jyothi, Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry and Pramila R D’souza, the Convener of the program, were the other dignitaries on the dais. 

The program commenced with an invocation from the second-year B.E. Students. A video presentation on the screen showed a glimpse of St. Joseph Engineering College after the invocation. Dr Rio D’Souza welcomed the gathering to the inaugural ceremony and the new batch of students to the family of Josephites. In his welcome address, he spoke about the journey and transformation of SJEC in the past 20 years to become one of the leading Educational Institutions in the region. He highlighted the necessity of the Student Induction Program which is to be conducted for about three weeks, as an important step towards professionalism. His address also touched upon the distractions faced by students with regard to social media, smartphones, etc., and the challenges faced by institutions and parents in leading students on the right path. He mentioned the student monitoring system in the college and briefed me about the various facilities available in the Institution.

The Chief Guest and other dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. A symbolic inauguration of classes for the new academic year was performed with Students’ representatives from individual Departments and their respective department heads, each unfurling the flags of the eight respective Departments.

The following students were honoured by the Chief Guest as toppers of the orientation programme on the occasion.

  • Ayman Sheik Zaheer
  • Sheldon Angelo Menezes
  • Tharakan Vidya Ravunni
  • Joshua Dylan Fernandes

Giridhar Salian began his address by welcoming the First Year students to SJEC. He asked the students to be energetic and showcase commitment and hard work to their cause of becoming qualified Engineers. With a famous quote, he explained the importance of thoughts deciding the destiny of an individual. He spoke about the importance of dedication, focus, and skills required to convert thoughts into destiny. He added the importance of SWOT analysis in this process. He stressed teamwork which will help to complete good projects and help in nation-building. He also mentioned the brand value of SJEC in society in terms of quality education and high placement. 

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza welcomed the first-year students to the SJEC family and spoke about the commitment of the institution to provide quality education to its students. He thanked the Chief Guest for motivating the students. He spoke about the belief in holistic development and the importance of becoming a better human being filled with values, respecting elders, being spiritual, disciplined, responsible, and not being a victim of bad habits etc. He asked the students to trust themselves, trust in god, and work hard which is the way to success. Director wished all the first-year students the very best in all their academic endeavours at SJEC.

Pramila R D’souza, the convener of the program offered a Vote of Thanks.  Smitha D’souza and Himani compered the programme. The inaugural ceremony was followed by an orientation programme, in which the Heads of all Departments showcased their individual Departments to the new students.
