St Agnes College celebrates youth week

Mangaluru: As youth are considered to be the building blocks of a nation, St Agnes College (Autonomous) has taken up the initiative of celebrating youth week from November 25 to 28. The programme, aimed to empower the youth, is an opportunity to bring out their unique talents and inform them about their responsibility towards nation building.

The youth week, themed ‘Hamse Hi Nayi Shiruvadh- Youth, A Ray of Hope’ was inaugurated on November 25.

Manoj Lewis, Assistant Professor, Government First Grade College, Kavoor was the resource person who shared his insights on utilising ones youth for a progressive and meaningful life and hence creating a positive impact on society. “Youth is not a time of life. It is a state of life. One should celebrate their youth everyday and hence become a ray of hope to all,” he said.

Sr Dr M Jeswina A.C., principal of St Agnes College, in her presidential address, spoke on how ones youth is measured. “Youth is not associated with age but the way one thinks. At any point of time, one should always have a youthful approach to life,” she advised.

Sr Dr Carmel Rita A C, college administrator, Sr Dr Venessa A. C., vice-principal were also present.

Postgraduate Psychology students spoke on the dangers and struggles faced by the youth today after the inaugural. They highlighted that the youth today are easily exposed to drugs and alcohol, which can destroy their lives. They also threw light on youth suicide. They spoke on the importance of taking challenges and failures positively and using the hurdles in life as stepping stones to success.

The day-long event took an exciting turn when students were engaged in activities and games. With a cultural programme, they were given an opportunity to showcase their talents. The winners were awarded prizes by Sr Dr Venessa A C.

Asha, Assistant Professor, Department of English, was the host of the programme. Athena Aranha, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, welcomed the gathering. Deekshitha Prashanth Assistant Professor, Department Journalism and Mass Communication, proposed a vote of thanks. Sr Roopa AC was the convener of the programme.
