Mangaluru: NCC Cadets of Army Wing, St Agnes College (Autonomous), organized a ‘Tree Plantation’ programme on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5 on the college campus to create awareness about saving trees. This is an important step of afforestation to maintain the ecological balance of nature.
The Army Wing cadets arrived at 8.30 am and were given saplings from Mangalore Group, NCC. Cadets were divided into groups and began work accordingly. The Tree Plantation programme was organized under the Guidance of Lt Gayathri B.K, ANO Army wing and Flying Officer Dr Hithakshi, ANO Air Wing.
PI staffs Subedar Jeewan Singh and Havildar Ram Chander from 18 Karnataka Battalion, NCC Mangalore guided us during the programme. Cadets along with others planted saplings and made fences around them and watered the plants. The Programme was appreciated by the management and created enthusiasm among the cadets.
At the end of the programme, the cadets took an oath that they would take much care of the saplings and will not cut trees ruthlessly. Lt Gayathri B.K ANO Army Wing and PG Co-ordinator Dr Vinora A.C. were present during the programme.
