St Agnes College holds Guest lecture on Waste Management in India

Mangaluru: The Departments of Political Science and Hindi, St Agnes College (Autonomous) had organized a  guest lecturer on ‘Waste  Management in India: Emerging and Eco-Friendly Technologies’ on 4 May 2023 under the guidance of Dr Shailaja H.G. Head, Department of Hindi and Gayathri B.K. Head, Department of Political Science.

Vibha, Research Scholar, Department of Biotechnology Engineering, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was the resource speaker.

The guest lecture was organized with the aim to make students aware of the major sources of waste and their management technologies.

 The lecture provided comprehensive knowledge regarding the major types and sources of solid waste generated in the country and the adverse effects of poor management of solid waste. Vibha elaborated upon the adverse effects of solid waste on the various Environmental components like air, soil and water. She discussed the various aspects of waste management in India and other countries. She elaborated upon the latest technology which can be used for sustainable waste management and resource conservation. She covered the topics like Agricultural waste management in India, the Generation of biofuel from agricultural residue, tackling global warming through low carbon emitting fuel strategies, the Production of biodiesel and bioethanol from biomass and introduced BRIC, Nitte, the only biofuel research centre in Dakshina Kannada- which produces biodiesel from used cooking oil.

Over 150 students of various streams and Faculty members were present for the lecture.
