Mangaluru: The PG department of Big Data Analytics of St Agnes College (Autonomous), organized an expert lecture on ‘Object Oriented Programming and Version Control Systems’ on October 01, 2022. The resource person was C.G. Thomas, Senior Software Engineer, Novigo Solutions, Mangalore. The lecture was attended by the students of Third year B.C.A. and B.Sc. Computer Science and the students of M.Sc. Big Data Analytics. The PG Coordinator Sr Dr Vinora and the faculty members of the Department of Big Data Analytics were also present.
The objective of the lecture was to provide the students with an insight into how programmer productivity could be enhanced through Object Oriented Programming and to provide a detailed insight into the need and use of Version Control Software. Mr C. G. Thomas began the lecture by highlighting the importance of practice in coding and that learning the basics of coding in different programming languages helps in improving the skills required for problem-solving. Mr Thomas demonstrated this aspect, through examples using Object Oriented concepts. In the later part of the lecture, Mr Thomas introduced the audience to Version Control tools such as Git and GitHub. He demonstrated through examples the importance of keeping track of code revisions and the significance of these tools when software projects are being developed and hosted by the IT Industry.
