St Agnes College holds lecture on The scope of the Telescope

Mangaluru: The Department of Physics, St Agnes College (Autonomous), in collaboration with Chair in Christianity, Mangalore university, organised a guest talk titled “The scope of the Telescope: Possible spiritual insights and the images of James Webb telescope” on Nov 21, 2022. Rev. Dr Stephen Jayard, Professor of Philosophy, JNU Pune was the resource person. The Dignitaries present were Rev Fr Ivan D’Souza, head of Mangalore Diocesan chair in Christianity, Mangalore University, Sr Dr Venissa, the Principal and Nancy Vas, the Registrar, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.

The guest talk commenced with a prayer song led by Sr Melisha and group, followed by a welcome and introduction of the resource person by Marina Lobo, Head of the Department of Physics. The speaker began the insightful talk by saying how the universe has evolved and continued with an explanation about the telescope and how the images obtained from the James Webb telescope provide us an indication of how big the universe is and we are proud to be the insignificant part of this significant universe. He also enlightened the students on the various Astronomical phenomena.

Rev Dr Stephen along with Rev Fr Ivan D’Souza, head of Mangalore Diocesan Chair in Christianity, Mangalore University gifted the college with books related to Astronomy and space science. Students from first, second and final year physical sciences were the beneficiaries of this address.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Tenisha Pinto. The programme was compered by Merlin Suzan.
