Mangaluru: The Post Graduate Department of English, St Agnes College organised a workshop on 22 July 2022 on “English for Specific Purposes”. Anna Una Crasta, Assistant Professor, made the opening remarks on the need and relevance of this workshop.
The workshop was conducted in two sessions. The first session was handled by Brian Fernandes, Director, Spearhead Media Pvt. Ltd. He spoke about the importance of media and media skills. His session included several ideas like the working of mass media and its influence on the world.
The second session was by Mahesh Nayak, Executive Editor, Mangalore Today. This address was all about news reporting. Mahesh Nayak’s session was all about news reporting- from its structure, the way news is collected and the final publishing too.
Dr Malini Hebbar, the convenor of the workshop, planned the workshop to offer to the students a hands-on experience to gain new and practical information. The resource persons Brian Fernandes and Mahesh Nayak were apt professionals to train the MA English students understand and develop skills of language application in the industry. The workshop was attended by Dr Zubaida, HOD; Raveena Mascarenhas, faculty member, and students of MA English. Student representatives Mr Abdul Samad and Pooja C introduced the resource people.
