Mysuru: All India Democratic Students Organisation will be conducting its sixth state-level three day student’s conference at Davangere from August 26 to 28.
KS Ashwini, Treasurer, AIDSO said “The strength of government lies in the peoples ignorance and the government knows this and hence opposes true enlightenment. Among the total population in the country, 25 percent of them are less than 25 years of age. The government spends just 3 percent of its annual budget on education. Even after 70 years of Independence 80 percent of our youths are still deprived of higher education. Only 3 percent of people in rural area are graduates. Government pats its back claiming that it has enrolled more than 90 percent of children into schools. But it is maintaining silence that 20 percent of them quit schools after fifth standard, another 40 percent of them quit after eighth standard and still another 40 percent drop out after tenth standard. The quality of education in government school is in such a situation where in 82 percent of class three students cannot perform basic subtraction”.
“Besides the recent developments in different universities are highly disturbing. The governments are trying to interfere in University matters. The democratic rights of students are being snatched away. The appointments to the highest seats of learning are politically made rather than on academic basis. The main demand from AIDSO to government is to put an end to commercialization in all levels of education, increase government schools, colleges and hostels; allot 10 percent of central budget and 30 percent of the state budget for education; abolish COMED K and management quota and bring all seats in professional college under government quota which must be filled up through one state CET only, fee must be within reach of common man; reduce revaluation fees and end examination anomalies; recruit more permanent staffs; provide adequate security to girl students and award stringent punishment to all offenders and stop interference of governments in the university matters” added Ashwini. During the three day conference the above demands will be discussed.
