Shivamogga: In independent India everyone has the right to live according to their choice. Treating every individual with due respect without any discrimination based on caste, creed, race, and gender along with respect to rights of third gender should be practiced, said Karnataka Janapada Academy President, and Padma Shri Awardee Manjamma Jogathi.

She was speaking after inaugurating the two-day national level seminar on “Downtrodden Community and Social Justice” and 115th birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister of India Dr. Babu Jagjivanram at Prof. S. P. Hiremath Hall in Kuvempu University on Tuesday April 5.

“Bringing social equality was the thought of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram. If we live according to their ideology that is the real respect that we can give to Constitution and both the personalities. We don’t need sympathy towards Dalits, downtrodden and backward communities. We are asking equal education and opportunity as others. Education has power to bring equality in society. We can get good result to our effort if our life is in good track, she stressed.

Department of Tribal Community of Kannada University Professor Dr. K. M. Metri said that efforts should be made to bring migrants to the main stream through long term schemes and social justice. Providing education and employment to the ignored class of the society is essential. Several programmes must be conducted on the problems of these classes, he noted.

There is a need for study regarding the lifestyle, tradition and culture of tribal communities and it must be brought in front of the society. The government schemes must focus on problems of those communities, said Kuvempu University Vice Chancellor and President of the programme Prof. B. P. Veerabhadrappa.

Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram worked as a minister in several departments like Agriculture, Labour, Aviation and Defence. He set route map for these departments. His thoughts included the last person of the society and other sectors in the society. Hence his ideology is like route map for the development of the ignored and backward class of the society, he added.

On this occasion famous folk singer Jogila Siddaraju entertained the audience through his singing.
