TEQIP 1.3 sponsored three-day workshop on “Aspects of LTE 4G” at Sahyadri College

Mangaluru: A TEQIP 1.3 sponsored three day workshop on “Aspects of LTE 4G” was conducted from 22nd to 24th March, 2019 by the Department of Electronics and communication Engineering in association with VTU, Belgavi at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (SCEM), Mangaluru. The workshop aimed to give an insight to the faculty members of VTU about the progress of Long Term Evolution (LTE) with specific reference to 4G. Course on LTE 4G has been introduced in the CBCS scheme for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in communication related streams. The workshop was conducted to facilitate the faculty of VTU engineering colleges to understand the course contents and to get a brief overview about LTE and its components from experts which includes industry and academia.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. M.H Kori, Former Technical Director, Alcatel Lucent Technologies. During the inaugural speech he emphasized on learning new technologies and tools for faculties and students. Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, SCEM addressed the participants and asked them to make use of the workshop to the maximum extent. Dr. Ashwath Rao, HOD Dept. of ECE briefed the program schedule in reference to the three day workshop.
On the first day of the event Dr. M. H Kori gave an overview of Wireless communications in general and Mobile Communications with emphasis on 4G LTE. Dr. K Rajesh Shetty, Professor, Department of ECE, NMAM, Nitte, delivered a talk on the topic of Fading Multipath Channels and Diversity Techniques.
The second day consisted of a session delivered by Mr. Abhijith B G, Technical lead, Saankhya labs Bangalore. His session was on the topic, “Multicarrier Modulation, OFDMA, SC-FDMA”. He provided an overview and channel Structure of LTE. For participants, a Demo on LTE was organized by Research Design Lab (RDL) Technologies which is an in-house industry located at SCEM.
On day three, Dr. Sondur Lakshmipathi, Founder Director, MYMO Wireless Technology Private Limited, delivered a session which facilitated an overview on Uplink Channel Transport Processing and Physical layer procedures. Post lunch session was taken over by Dr. Ravilla Dilli, Professor, Dept. ECE, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, on Radio Resource Management and Mobility Management.
The Three-Day workshop concluded with a valedictory concluded which was presided by Dr. Sondur Lakshmipathi. He motivated and inspired fellow participants to emerge as good resource persons and to build a vibrant Eco-system for the nation which in turn could produce indigenous products in the fields related to communication. Dr. Ravila Dilli congratulated and distributed the certificates to the participants. Professor Balakrishna, Vice Principal,in his presidential remarks congratulated all the participants and Dept. of ECE for conducting the workshop successfully. Dr Ashwath Rao thanked and acknowledged every participant for their cooperation and the necessary arrangements that were made which resulted in the smooth flow of the sessions of the workshop.
