Bengaluru: In a heart-warming initiative, the Social Work Student Association of St Joseph’s University, Bangalore recently organized an inter-orphanage fest. The “UBUNTU 2023” co-sponsored by Haya Foundation and associated sponsor by Goldwings Aviation was held on the college campus on April 23, 2023. The event was organized by the students of the social work department and volunteers from other departments to promote inclusivity and social responsibility among the students. For the event, more than 300 children from different NGOs including CARE, Makkala Jagrithi, Global Concerns India, Sri Sai Sneha Foundation, and Anatha Sishu Sevashrama participated in the program.

The event began with an inaugural ceremony that was held in the college. The ceremony was presided over by the Dean of the school of social work, HOD, faculty coordinator of SWSA and students. The ceremony started with a prayer, after which the chief guest, Danny Kanikaraj, was introduced. Danny Kanikaraj is an eminent personality in the South Indian film industry, dance choreography etc and he delivered an inspiring speech on the role of students in shaping the future through caring and praying.

Following Danny Kanikaraj’s speech, the President of SWSA delivered a welcome address and highlighted the aim of UBUNTU. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp, which is a symbolic gesture of seeking blessings from the almighty.

The fest, which took place on the college premises, saw the participation of several orphanages/NGO from the surrounding areas. The day-long event was packed with a variety of activities such as games, cultural programs, and interactive sessions. The fest aimed to provide a platform for the students to interact and engage with the children from the orphanages/NGO, provide a platform to show their talents and to interact with others.

The highlight of the fest was the open talent show, where the children from the orphanages showcased their skills and talents, ranging from singing, and dancing, to sports and literature events. The students from the department also participated in volunteering enthusiastically, showcasing their support and solidarity with the cause.

This inter-orphanage fest showcases the power of collective action and social responsibility in creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.
