Manipal: On account of International Chefs Day 2016, Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration and the Department Of Culinary Arts in association with the Indian Federation of Chefs Association (IFCA) & World Associations of Chefs Societies (WACS) hosted its first International Chefs Day Conference at Manipal on Wednesday, November 9.
Prof Parvadhavardhini Gopalakrishnan, Principal, WGSHA delivered the opening remarks and welcomed the gathering. Prof Thiru delivered the overview of the conference. The conference was inaugurated by Chef Manjit Singh Gill , Senior Corporate Chef, ITC Hotels and President of Indian Federation of Culinary Associations(IFCA).
Dr Chef Soundararajan (Corporate Executive Chef,Mahindra Holidays & Resort India Limited) , Chef Vijaya Baaskaran (Executive Chef, Executive Assistant manager Le Meridian, Bengaluru),Mr Vikram Cotah (CEO, GRT Hotels, Chennai) , Celebrity Chef Dr Damodaran (holder of Guinness Record for Longest Cooking Marathon), Chef Parvinder Singh Bali (Corporate Chef, learning and Development – The Oberoi center of Learning and development) and Chef Debrat Bhowmik ( Mahindra Holidays Coorg) conducted various sessions. Topics such as ‘Emerging Culinary trends’, ‘Food styling’, ’Knife skills’ and ‘A chef is born or made’ were discussed at length followed by question and answer sessions. Chef Thomas Gugler President of World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) conveyed his message through a Skype session.
As many as 850 students and 35 faculty members from WGSHA attended the programme.
The College received a token of appreciation from IFCA for the efforts in nurturing the future culinary professionals of India. The day ended on a lively note with cultural performances by students.
