Appearing for the Olympiad examination is not only benefits the academic profile building of the students but also promotes the analytical and critical thinking of the youngsters. Several olympiad exams take place throughout the year. The maths olympiad is one such examination that helps the students to excel in mathematics. Many organizations conduct these exams at national and international levels. The organization should be known for the educative, informative, and evaluative examinations it provides to millions of school students. It is the responsibility of the parents to encourage their children to participate in the maths olympiad examination.

The students preparing for the Indian Maths olympiad (IMO) examination should be ready to work smart rather than working hard. Choosing the right path leads to success. The students must register for the examination properly. As the students prepare for this high-stake test, they need some tips and tricks to perform well in the examination. Here are some of the underlined things to be known by the students while preparing for the IMO examination.

Be aware of the concepts

This is the most obvious advice that is given to the students preparing for the olympiad examination. Being aware of the concept helps them to get an overview of the examination. Understanding the importance of each topic will be detrimental to the preparation of the students of class 7.  Arithmetic of integers, geometry, quadratic equation, trigonometry, and coordinate geometry are some of the important topics from which the questions are asked. Failing to grasp the significance of the topics is unfavorable to the preparation. The maths olympiad is very extensive and has questions from various topics. Knowing the most and least important topic helps the students to allocate the time needed for preparation. It will help to get a clear picture of what will come next in the test.

Understand the level

The Olympiad exam is not a school exam. It requires in-depth learning of concepts with a higher level of theoretical and practical knowledge. A further understanding of the subject would help the students in this. One of the best ways to prepare for the olympiad is to know the type of test to be attempting. Some exams are multiple-choice whereas others are essay type. The maths olympiad contains objective-type questions. If the students have already attempted the examination they must know what are things to be expected in the examination. The test comes along with a pre-exam guide that explains the working of the examination. This guide provides information such as on which sections the students must study, which books to refer to, and how much time they should practice.  This gives an idea about the types of questions the students might be facing during the examination. The exam usually lasts for 2 hours.

Make use of the internet

The students can use the internet in both good and bad ways. The internet can be treated as a friend if it is utilized in the best possible way. Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube are the social platforms that offer various practice sets. It also shares information that is needed to solve difficult problems or discuss the level of questions.

The students do not need to sweat hard in the sun to know the whens and whats about the Indian Maths Olympiad (IMO). they can just make use of the internet and visit the official site of IMO to know all the information.

Use time productively

Time is very effective when it is used efficiently.  starting the preparation in advance helps the students to score better. Formulate a timetable and allot time for the preparation of each topic. If the students cannot determine the time, they can seek help from the teacher for the number of hours needed to be devoted to a particular topic. Using time productively helps the students to perform better in the examination.

Practice makes perfect

This quote speaks for itself. Practice till it becomes perfect or till the student meets the requirements needed for the maths olympiad. The student must practice every question on each topic. Before the Olympiad exam, the students must take a practice test. The IMO class 7 previous year paper 2012 helps the students to determine in which area they are weak. The students should allot most of their time to studying. The student who spends ample time in the study will secure good marks than the one who spends only a few hours.

Sample tests are important

After having enough practice, the students must examine their ability by attempting some online mock tests. They must try to attempt the tests in a time-bounded way. The online sample questions provide the students with the more accurate type of questions that they might face on the examination. Many online sites offer these types of sample questions and are easy to obtain.

The students must pay attention to the scoring system of the olympiad examination. The students must measure their performance using a scale from 1 to 500. The candidates with a minimum score will struggle during the examination. The student must analyze the number of accurately right questions and the number of questions that are wrong to improve the performance. They should also pay attention to how much time one spends looking over the test booklet. Many students spend more time studying but could not answer even one question. This is because of the lack of clarity on studying.

The sample tests help the students to practice their problem-solving skills. There are many problems that the students struggle with when they attempt the olympiad examination. If they plan to take the test, they should practice the problems that they find difficult. They should make sure that they know how to solve each problem before they attempt them in the examination.

Conclusion

Before preparing for the Olympiad exam, the students must take time to know how it differs from the other exams. If the student finds it difficult in mathematics, then the Olympiad examination is a great tool that improves their problem-solving ability and helps in understanding the concepts.
