Mangaluru: The National Service Scheme and Yenepoya Deemed to be University observed the World Cancer Day from Feb 4 till Feb 6. As a part of this programme, the NSS unit of Yenepoya Deemed to be University and Community Dentistry, Cancer Awareness Outreach Programme unit, Staff and Students held various activities like, Street play and awareness talks on Early Detection of Breast, Cervical and Oral Cancers, Free oral checkup, camp cancer prevention rally walk at Panambur Beach. Around 1000 students and members of the general public participated in the programme.

Dr. G Shreekumar Menon, Registrar, Dr. B H Sripathi Rao, Dean Yenepoya Dental College, Prof. Padmakumar, Dean Yenepoya Physiotherapy College, Dr. Mohammed Gulzar, Dean Yenepoya Pharmacy College, and Dr. Abhay Nirgude, Professor and HOD Community Medicine, were the guests for the programme.
Dr. Guruprasad, Medicine Oncologist, Dr. Ashwini Shetty, NSS Programme Coordinator, and Dr. Imran Pasha, NSS Programme officer, had given talks on “Early Detection of Cervical, Breast and Oral Cancers” to the public. Dr. Asif and Dr. Jobin, NSS Programme Officers, were present at the programme.
Students of MBBS and BDS 2017 batch were the hosts of the programme.
