Yuva Kalakaar Contest to preserve traditions of Hindustani Classical Music

Bangalore: Sangeet Sadhana School of Music and Art invites young talent to the Yuva Kalakaar contest, an initiative to revive, preserve and nurture Hindustani Classical music. Yuva Kalakaar – a Hindustani classical music contest – has been organized by Sangeet Sadhana, a school for Indian classical music and art. The contest aims to encourage youngsters to participate and perform various raagas, bhajans, thumri, dadra, tappa, kajri, hori, chaiti, and gazal. The contest will also reward young practitioners of classical music from Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan – Sajan Misra.

Participants need to upload an audio/video recording of their performances to enter the competition. Participants can register their details through Events High and Book my Show. Closing date for the registration is December 20. Full details about the contest are available on Sangeet Sadhana’s website and its Facebook page.

Sangeet Sadhana is organizing a grand musical concert called ‘Benarasiya’, which will be held after the musical contest on the same day i.e., December 30. This event by Sangeet Sadhana, is a tribute to the ‘Queen of Thumri’, Padma Vibhushan Vidushi Girija Devi (Benaras Gharana). The legends of Benaras Gharana, and Padma Bhushan of India, Pandit Rajan – Sajan Misra will perform live at Gayana Samaj, Bangalore.

About Sangeet Sadhana

Sangeet Sadhana School of Music and Arts was established in 2009 with the objective of reviving, preserving, nurturing and promoting Hindustani Classical Music tradition. It follows the traditional style of Guru – Shishya Parampara. however the school strives to provide a modern approach of teaching methods to focus on each and every student. The Agra gharana is known for the stress it gives to laya (rhythm), and the importance given to bol banaav, layakari, bol taans, meends (glides) and gamak taans (powerful ornamentation). The teachers closely nurture the students to improve their musical skills and encourage them to practice Hindustani Classical music. They aim to nurture and propagate the priceless heritage of Indian music. They feel that it is the responsibility of the institution to take a larger overview of the art and its potentiality of Assimilating Social and Cultural changes.
