Mangaluru: Mangalore Christian Council, Mangalore Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, Karnataka Mission Network, All Karnataka United Christian Forum For Human Rights- Western Zone and Senior Citizens Welfare Association, Bejai, in unison celebrated Sauhardha Christmas-2021 with senior citizens on Tuesday 7, 2021 at Bejai Church Hall.

The programme was graced by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, Rt Rev. Dr C. L. Furtado, Bishop Emeritus, CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Geevarghese Mar Makarios Kalayil, Bishop of Syro Malankara Catholic Diocese of Puttur, Most Rev. Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop, Syrio Malabar Catholic Diocese of Belthangady,  His Grace Yakhob Mar Elias, Metropolitan, the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Diocese of Brahmavar, and His Grace Mar Demetrius, Bishop, Believers Eastern Church.

The celebration began with a prayer led by Pastor Donald Menezes followed by the prayer dance by the students of St Francis Xavier Primary School, Bejai.

In his message, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha said, “It is difficult to comprehend the form in which God reveals himself to us, but it is sure that he assumes human form and shares his nature with us to restore the lost relationship with God”. Further, he said, “I need to give credit to the organizers for considering senior citizens to be part of Sauhardha Christmas. Due to Covid, for the last one and half years, senior citizens have stayed away from all the activities. This is the best way to celebrate Christmas with senior citizens and bring smiles on their faces.”

Bishop Emeritus CL Furtado, CSI said, “Being a part of history, Jesus redeemed us from our history. He came down to this earth to experience poverty and establish peace. Therefore, real peace is born not from conflict and conquest but only through people working for it “.

Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy said, “Jesus, the light of the world was born to dispel the darkness of sin. Let us lighten the world covered by darkness and uncertainties by being the light of the World.” Senior citizens of various churches in Mangalore participated and presented beautiful Christmas programmes.  School children and the parish choirs sang beautiful carols. The program was meaningful with the dance drama on Christmas which was rendered with a Christmas message to the present times.

The programme was compered by Ms Conny Saldanha. President of Senior Citizen Welfare Association Juliet Pereira welcomed the gathering. Mrs Maisy D’Souza, secretary, thanked dignitaries and the participants.
