Shirva/Manchakal: The NYC (National Youth Convention) decennial Cross which is travelling in Udupi Diocese was received at Pangla St. John Evangelist Church on December 2. The Holy cross was brought by ICYM members of Pangla Parish from Shirva Our Lady of Health Church to Salmara, Shankerpura at 4pm on Friday.The NYC cross was then taken in grand procession from Salmara to St. John Evangelist church led by church band accompanied by Parish Priest Rev. Dr. Leslie D’Souza along with Mark Vaz (Vice President Parish Council) with great devotion. The prayer was attended by a large number of faithful, youth as well as parishioners and members of various associations. The cross was carried by Joyson D’Sa (President, ICYM Shirva Deanery) along with Loyal D’Souza (ICYM President, Udupi Diocese) on a decorated tempo.
On arrival, the holy cross was placed at the altar of the Pangla St. John’s Church and venerated by Fr. Leslie D’Souza followed by prayer service and liturgy wherein all faithful took part with great devotion.
Oliver D’Sa (President, ICYM Pangla) gave a brief introduction of the NYC cross, the humble beginning from Vasai in Mumbai to the glorious journey travelling all over India and now travelling through the newly formed Udupi Diocese and the benefits the faithful have received by venerating and adoring the Holy NYC Cross.
Fr. Leslie D’Souza narrated the significance of the Holy cross and requested the faithful to adore the cross with great devotion and humility. “Let’s surrender ourselves completely to Jesus on the cross and praise and worship him. He is our Lord and Saviour”.
All the faithful then were allowed to touch and kiss the cross and then an hour of Benediction to Holy Sacrament followed by Holy Eucharistic Mass was held.
