Udupi: In a glittering ceremony, the Muhurath of new Konkani Movie “Sophiya – A Dream Girl” enacted by well- known Konkani and Kannada movie actress Ester Noronha was held at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged in Palimaron on November 12, Saturday.
Producer Janet Noronha accorded a hearty welcome to the gathering and thanked the director Harry Fernandes (Barkur) who also had called the shots for the recently released film Nashibacho Khel and other crew members of the movie and all the artistes and supporters. Rev. Fr. Sunil Veigas (Parish Priest, Belman), Rev. Fr. Charles Noronha (Parish Priest, Palimar) and chief guest of the day Jitendra Furtado, President of Palimar Panchayat were present.
Fr. Sunil led a small prayer and prayed for God’s blessings for the movie and its team. He lauded Janet for taking this bold step of promoting Konkani movies.
Jitendra Furtado said that in other languages big budget films were produced and they could recover their costs but in Konkani it was not possible. However, Janet had taken a big risk to support her daughter and many other artistes in this movie. “She definitely needs our complete support for the movie to be very successful”, he added. He further said, “Let this new Konkani movie spread a good message to the society”.
Harry Fernandes introduced the artistes and briefed about the movie. He said that Janet had taken a risk to produce this film for the love of Konkani language and to support a lot of local artistes. Many local artistes will get a chance to act in this movie, he added. He also announced that if anyone was interested to act in this movie they could contact Janet immediately and the deserving would get a chance. The shooting will be held in the Palimar vicinity for a few days starting from today. He requested all the Konkani people to come together and make this movie a great success. The movie will be released during May 2017.
Fr. Charles Noronha performed the Muhurath of the movie “Sophiya” by giving the clap. M C Floyd D’Mello Cascia conducted the Muhurath ceremony.
Ester Noronha proposed the vote of thanks. She specially thanked four families for providing accommodation for all them and crew members-Quadras Family, Mendonsa Family, Victor, Leena and Teresa D’Sa for providing accommodation. She also thanked the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent for providing the location for shooting the first shots of the movie.
The movie Sophiya-A Dream Girl is a romantic thriller scripted by director Harry Fernandes (Barkur). Assistant Director Roystan Bolkunje, cameraman Shafeeq Sheikh, action director Sunil Rodrigues, music director Gunvant Sen were also present. Lead actress Ester will also be singing for the movie along with Gunvant Sen and Antony Tauro.
The cast includes two young actors Elton Mascarenhas and Shelton Crasta, Stany Alvares, Roystan Bolkunje, Francis Oliviera (Padukone) and Floyd D’Mello. Prince Jacob Bombay will give the comic touch.
The movie will be shot in Palimar, Udupi, Kundapura, Manipal, Mangaluru and Chikkamagaluru.
